If ya ain’t askin’…

While in the store earlier this week with Mimi & Becca, Mac stepped away from them and found a LARGE pack of Sour Patch Kids (a pretty nasty candy for those not familiar). When Jane turned around, she noticed Mac standing, waiting patiently in line. When he was next, the cashier leaned down and asked, “What can I do for you”?Mac held up the bag and said, “I’d like to buy candy”.
“Do you have any money”?
“Ness” (Mac’s version of yes)
Mac reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of pretend money. Not missing a beat, the cashier pretended to take money from Mac, looked at her hand and said, “I don’t think this is enough. Do you have any more”?
“Ness”. And Mac reached into his other pocket and pulled out another ‘wad’ of pretend money.
The cashier took the second handful of pretend-money, hesitated and said, “I still don’t think this is enough. Do you have any more”?
At this point, Jane stepped in and asked how much the bag of candy was. When the cashier told her $4.50, Jane said to forget it, that was too much, and they would get something else. The cashier said, “He was so cute, I was almost going to give it to him”!
We are amazed how Mac has progressed to feel confident walking up to people he doesn’t know and engaging them now.
Last night, he went up to the window at the Dairy Bar, having not been there since last summer, and said, “I would like Dinosaur Crunch. Do you have that still”? (A flavor of ice cream there) How he remembered Dinosaur Crunch, and then that he went and asked for it without being prompted is pretty good progress for Mac!
