Becca made the job chart today. Looks like she fortunately forgot how to spell D A D!

Kauai ATV Adventure

April 21st, 2011

While in Kauai in April of 2011, Pete, George, & Becca went on an ATV adventure – from the old sugar mill in Koloa, through the Wilcox tunnel to the eastern side of the ridge where the cane was grown – up to mountain waterfalls and lots of back-country 4-wheelin’!

Mac eating some Dinosaur Crunch!

Dinosaur Crunch!

While in the store earlier this week with Mimi & Becca, Mac stepped away from them and found a LARGE pack of Sour Patch Kids (a pretty nasty candy for those not familiar). When Jane turned around, she noticed Mac standing, waiting patiently in line. When he was next, the cashier leaned down and asked, “What can I do for you”?

Mac held up the bag and said, “I’d like to buy candy”.

“Do you have any money”?

“Ness” (Mac’s version of yes)

Mac reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of pretend money. Not missing a beat, the cashier pretended to take money from Mac, looked at her hand and said, “I don’t think this is enough. Do you have any more”?

“Ness”. And Mac reached into his other pocket and pulled out another ‘wad’ of pretend money.

The cashier took the second handful of pretend-money, hesitated and said, “I still don’t think this is enough. Do you have any more”?

At this point, Jane stepped in and asked how much the bag of candy was. When the cashier told her $4.50, Jane said to forget it, that was too much, and they would get something else. The cashier said, “He was so cute, I was almost going to give it to him”!

We are amazed how Mac has progressed to feel confident walking up to people he doesn’t know and engaging them now.

Last night, he went up to the window at the Dairy Bar, having not been there since last summer, and said, “I would like Dinosaur Crunch. Do you have that still”? (A flavor of ice cream there) How he remembered Dinosaur Crunch, and then that he went and asked for it without being prompted is pretty good progress for Mac!

Mac Dives to the Bottom

July 11th, 2010

Mac has been able to swim without ‘water wings’ this season, but has been hugging the sides of the pool until this week. His new-found confidence also has him going to the bottom of the pool to retrieve toys!

July 11th, 2010

Becca tried last week, but didn’t make it the entire length of the pool while swimming underwater. Here’s her first successful attempt!

You’re Wrong. . .

Mac and George got on the hotel elevator after breakfast this morning and another gentleman got on with them. Mac pressed the button for the 16th floor and the other man pushed the button for 7. The 7th floor button would not light up, however. The man said to them, we’re going to stop at the 7th floor first. The elevator went all the way to 16, whereupon Mac and George got off. As the doors were closing, Mac looked back at the man and said, “You’re wrong”.

Oh boy. It’s already starting with him too~

Think I’m kiddin’?  Look it up here: http://www.zoozoo2.com/surfology.html

She really did well on her very first attempt and then for another two hours!  The instructor showed them how to carry their boards, then told Becca he’d carry hers to the water for her. She wasn’t having any of it! The board was much larger than she was, but she fought the good fight, and won!  You can either subscribe to all the videos or download the surfing video (and play it with quicktime) here: http://harmon1.org/podcast/beccasurfs.m4v

Eat ’til you’re sleepy . . .

April 5th, 2010

Mac is pretty insistent on getting a snack once he gets home from school. One afternoon recently he was a little tired as well. Here’s proof!

Be the chip...

You’re not supposed to do that?

Taking after his big brother in many ways, Mac mimicked him again today. I went to the pre-school to pick him up and all the kids were out in the play yard.  Mac ran over to me and I picked him up. Then one of the interns walked over and told me that Mac had pee’d in the puddle on the playground.  They took him inside to finish, but he was already done!  (3-24-2010 Age 4)
